![]() The "story" I hear often around personal growth or change is, "it's so hard!" Let's give that statement a big YES, AND... YES - changing a personal habit is the equivalent of laying a new path through dense woods. You must push through tall grass or dense brush and... YES - sometimes there are huge obstacles in your way, like downed trees, boulders, or watercourses. You've got to figure out how to get over, around, or under those. AND - if you go out every day and trace the route again, eventually you'll have a clear path to easily follow. AND - remember you know how to do this - it is, in fact, the same process you've followed your entire life to form new habits, including the good ones! So change is hard... and yet can be simple. Dropping the woodsy metaphor, the core of shift is Practice. What you do over and again will eventually form a habit. Take Three and Call Me in the Morning:
Following are simple practices for each of nine personal development areas. What do you want to nurture more of in your life? Think of these as prescriptions for positive change - take three daily. THREE DAILY PRACTICES FOR... Growth: Read widely. Reach farther. Take tiny risks & Fail forward. Wellness: Eat smaller portions. Take the stairs. Let go of a stressor. Balance: Sleep well. Breathe on purpose. Express gratitude. Creativity: Expose yourself to newness. Take a different path. Be purposefully random. Focus: Plan your day. Turn off email for an hour. Be mindful: for two mins each hour, just breathe & clear your head. Sensuality: Bask in sunshine. Wear something that makes you feel awesome. Eat a bit of dark chocolate & slowly. Soulfulness: Meditate five minutes. Review your Core Values. Show up authentically. Relationships: Write and mail a personal note. Say, I was thinking about you. Seeking a Different sort of Keynote or Retreat Experience?
In my newest talk, "What Choice Do I Have?" I teach leaders to use all dimensions of themselves to lead well: head (book smarts), heart (emotional intelligence), and body (body language and resonance). Participants learn several tools for creating more positive conversations when they and their teams face problems. The program is highly engaging, as participants dive in and use the tools immediately around current workplace challenges. As you plan your organization's next leadership or company event, speak with me about creating a positive retreat experience your team will be talking about - and using - for a long time. ~~~*~~~*~~~ Do you seek support to create the new Leadership habits you will need to succeed at the next level? To explore how you can engage a coach to make that happen faster and easier, write me back or visit here for more info.

I continue in my quest to help build a Happier World and Workplace, one Leader at a time, by reminding my audiences that the reason great leadership is so rare is not because it's hard to understand. If you were to read the thousands of titles on Leadership published in the past 50 years, you would find lots of research... that keeps pointing to the same core practices. Leadership is simple to understand, yet can be terrifically hard to DO, every day, because it requires new habits. Here are some reminders. THREE DAILY WORKPLACE PRACTICES FOR...
Culture Building: Create clarity around Values and Vision. Pay attention to the Stories you tell. Keep it in Conversation. Leadership: Appreciate good work (X3). Help someone grow. Listen deeply. Engagement: Start with Strengths. Bring positive energy to every interaction. Ask people what they think. Accountability: Deliver on a promise. Acknowledge work done well. Ask, "What's up with
Teamwork: Embrace conflict. Huddle every morning. Share the work and share the credit. Remember, Leadership is not about a title: Anyone can be a Leader who practices the small details that make a big difference in the climate of your team, department, or organization.
