Week two of the New Year, and if you created goals or resolutions for yourself, you may already notice yourself falling short of your intentions. This stuff is hard!

That’s okay. Really. If you’ve ever trained your body (running/walking, lifting weights, doing yoga, even taking the stairs) you’ve probably experienced the muscle ache that shows up as soon as you move to a new level of distance, speed, weight, or complexity.

Remember that the pain comes from the tearing of little fibers in your muscles (it’s called breaking down), which get STRONGER as they repair themselves

When you exercise new emotional or intellectual muscles, the same thing happens. First, there’s the breakdown that comes from the strain of using new language or process. It doesn’t feel right. It hurts. It feels strange, both to you and others.

I promise that as the little reality fibers of your life repair themselves, you will get stronger at what you seek, whether that is making decisions or simply being calm and focused.

Keep at your practice.
