Many people see Happiness as a remote, alien encounter. It's something they experience maybe twice a year, on special occasions.

But living frequently in Happiness? "Oh," they say, "that requires fairy dust, luck, and departure from reality." Really?

Remember that Happiness is as much a human emotion as are fear, anger, and the uncertainty of living in turbulent times. I've been reading blogs from war zones and impoverished areas where people write about simple moments of joy.

We find what we look for.

If happiness is your bigger goal, allocate time, energy, and attention to the emotions that support it.
  • Express Gratitude. Write down what you're thankful for.
  • Love Yourself. Honor yourself as whole and wonderful, warts and all.
  • Hold Compassion. Put yourself in another's shoes for a moment or a day.
  • Express Empathy. Acknowledge others' emotions and notice how that helps you be more aware of your own emotional choices.
  • Act from Kindness. When you help others, they feel good and so do you (bonus!)
  • Forgive. Holding onto past wrongs means one of your hands is always full, so how can you grasp joy?
  • Be Generous. Speak appreciation aloud. Make a donation. Share your lunch.
  • Have a Purpose. Connect with the reason you're here on the earth.
I promise when you practice these tiny acts, big old Happiness will show up more often!
